Sin Hock Guan (Tangkak) Beef Noodles ( Kakilang Food Court / Plaza Pelangi)

Over the weekend, I decided to try JB's very own Tangkak Beef Noodles (Tangkak is a little town in Johor known for its beef noodles). As I was not in the mood to travel far, I decided to hit on this particular stall in Plaza Pelangi. The hawker stall is called Sin Hock Guan Permas Jaya (Tangkak) Beef Noodles. It is situated in Kakilang Food Court Centre which serves many other yummies.

Hock Guan's beef noodles is different from the SG version in two ways :
1) Tenderness of the beef
2) Thickness of the rice noodles

Their thick QQ rice noodles is drenched in thick beefy gravy. The bowl of rice noodles is then accompanied by a heavenly combination of tender morsels of braised beef brisket, slices of beef tenderloin, bits of salted vegetables, some peanuts and lots of spring onions. In addition, every bowl of beef noodles comes with special homemade chilli sauce and a steaming bowl of beef soup (just like in SG). The chili sauce is made with spicy tiny green chilli padi. It becomes a perfect combination with beef meat and fresh lime juice. It will cost you RM6 for a small bowl of beef noodles and RM8 for a larger serving

For those who wants to eat beef noodles but your familiy members may not wish to, there are Wanton Noodles, Chicken Rice, Dim Sum as well as Yong Tau Foo for their indulgence at the food court.

Another stall that sells really good beef noodles is at Ang Kim Chwee Coffee Shop near the CIQ.  I will cover the stall in the near future.

QQ Hut (Johor Bahru Very Own QB House) - Closed Down

Closed Down

I decided to take a break from food exploring today. I have been stuffing myself with too much good food from Johor Bahru, time to shed a few pounds. Anyway, I came across this hair salon in Holiday Plaza. It seems like a direct imitation of our island's very own QB House. However at Sing $5, it is definitely a better choice to get an "average skilled" haircut if you are in JB.   Apparently, it has been in operation for a year and I failed to notice it. I decided to give it a shot and judging myself from the mirror, the results are quite satisfying.

QB house, oops.. It is QQ Hut.
Gosh, Splitting Image of QB House.
Even the system is the same.
I seriously cannot tell
QQ from QB.
Fancy a cheap haircut?

Restoran You Kee XO Enterprise (Non-Halal, Excellent Roasted Duck and Pork Meat, Reasonable Price, Near Jusco Tebrau City)

I finally ventured into Taman Johor Jaya!

Taman Johor Jaya is a housing and industrial estate with a population of 16,000 families. It is primarily residential with light industrial and commercial zones.

The central commercial area is in Jalan Dedap and includes the locally popular Season cake shop and the Steamboat restaurant. There is also the popular Johor Jaya sports complex, bowling alley and several golf courses.

A new food centre, Family Food Centre, was built in 2004 along Jalan Dedap 14. There are various type of common Malay cuisine served in this food centre. Jusco Tebrau City, was built in 2005 along Tebrau Highway. Other neighbouring hypermarkets include Giant in Plentong and Carrefour along Tebrau Highway, just south of Jusco.

My best buddy's grandmother stay in Taman Johor Jaya near Jalan Bakawali. He was mentioning to me the tremendous spread of Chinese eateries in Taman Johor Jaya, especially along Jalan Dedap. Since I travelled often to Jusco Tebrau City, I decided to finally venture into the unknown territory in Jalan Dedap. I was not to be disappointed.

Jalan Dedap is a fabulous place for food. It boasts of the famous Restoran Gui Yuan Dim Sum, Hong Kong Boy and most importantly, it has an eatery that serves the best roasted duck and pork meat I ever tasted in Johor Bahru.

This superb eatery is called Restoran You Kee or You Kee X.O Trading. I give this shop a rating of 4.8 / 5. Their signature dishes are roasted duck, pork meat and herbal soup. Their famous herbal soup is cooked in a specially designed giant pot, which is heated in traditional style by charcoal. The shop claims that drinking their soup helps to keep one healthy and full of vigor.

They serve other dishes which taste just as good as their signature dishes. If any of you drop by Jusco Tebrau City, do pay a visit to this restaurant. It is definitely worth a try.
